The Primitives

Indie-pop pioneers The Primitives first burst onto the UK scene in the late 1980s with their infectious blend of jangly guitars, fuzzed-out melodies and irresistible pop hooks. Formed in Coventry, the band quickly gained international attention with their classic single “Crash”, a bright, buzzing anthem that became a global indie hit and a defining track of the era.   

Fronted by the unmistakable vocals of Tracy Tracy and driven by Paul Court’s sharp songwriting, The Primitives built a reputation for punchy three-minute pop songs that sit somewhere between garage rock energy and sweet melodic pop. Their early albums combined shimmering guitar noise with heartfelt melodies, earning them a devoted following that still packs venues decades later.   

After reforming in the late 2000s, the band returned with a run of acclaimed releases and energetic live shows that prove their sound is as vibrant as ever. Expect classic hits, cult favourites, and plenty of fuzzy indie-pop magic when The Primitives hit the stage at Pop Recs in Sunderland.
