The Old Black Cat Jazz Club meets each month, on the third Friday of the month, for relaxed performances in beautiful surroundings. All are welcome.

Ben Crosland is one of the North’s most experienced jazz musicians, having been leading bands for over 30 years.

He has worked as a sideman with many leading US and UK soloists including Jean Toussaint, Ken Peplowski, Harry Allen, George Masso, John Surman, Henry Lowther, Stan Sulzman, Frank Ricotti and John Etheridge.

Founded in 2006, the Quartet features Rod Mason (saxophones), Dean Stockdale (piano) and Dave Tyas (drums), all leading figures on the northern jazz scene. Each member of the band is a leader in his own right and this relaxed joining of kindred spirits produces an open, mature
and energetic performance in which there are no conflicting egos, only a desire to enjoy each other’s company, play good music and entertain.

To celebrate 20 years together as a band, the Quartet has recorded an album of new compositions by Crosland, Wooltown Reflections, with special guest trumpeter Steve Waterman, and will be featuring this music in concerts this year.

The band will also feature material by leading contemporary composers including Jaco Pastorius, Bob Mintzer, Mike Mainieri and Don Grolnick.
