Join The Sunderland Music City Team As Our New Marketing Executive

Location: The Fire Station, Sunderland (up to 40% remote work)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract: Full-time (part-time will be considered)
Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (evening and weekend work will be required)
Sunderland Music City aims to establish Sunderland as a global music hub. In January 2025 we successfully campaigned to join the Music Cities Network, putting Sunderland on the international map for music.
Day-to-day, we support Sunderland’s vibrant music scene, local artists, venues, wider business and cultural initiatives, as well as delivering our own key projects including large-scale charity events and activations.
In June 2025 we embark on the Sunderland Year of Music and are hiring a passionate and creative Marketing Executive to join our small team, supporting with event promotion, ticket sales, key marketing campaigns and more.
Reporting into our Marketing Director you’ll also focus on other projects Sunderland Music City will deliver, ensuring that our message reaches audiences in Sunderland, the wider region, and on a national and international level.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Digital Marketing
- Develop engaging content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) to promote our events, artists, and initiatives.
- Capture and edit multimedia content (photos, videos, Reels) for social media.
- Write compelling web copy, blog posts, and email campaigns.
- Update and maintain online listings with relevant event and artist information.
- Manage social media interactions and build online community engagement within our established house style.
Community Outreach & Event Representation
- Represent Sunderland Music City at live events, networking meetups, and community gatherings.
- Work with the Sunderland Music City team to develop grassroots campaigns to engage local communities and increase participation.
Third-Party Coordination
- Liaise with photographers, videographers, and graphic designers to ensure high-quality visuals and content.
- Manage merchandise inventory and coordinate sales at events and online.
Administrative & Strategic Support
- Support the preparation of funding bids, presentations and networking events.
- Assist in coordinating marketing strategies and promotional campaigns.
- Monitor and report on marketing performance metrics.
- Support with wider projects related to the Sunderland Music, Arts and Culture Trust as and when required.
Required Skills & Experience
- Marketing & Content Creation: Experience in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation (video and audio as well as written content).
- Website & Copywriting: Strong writing skills for web copy, blogs, and promotional materials. Experience updating and maintaining websites.
- Community Engagement: Personable and confident in engaging with different communities, artists, and industry professionals.
- Passionate About Events: Comfortable attending and representing the organisation at live events and networking opportunities.
- Multimedia & Creative Tools: Competency in using tools such as CapCut and Canva, as well as social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Passion for Music & Sunderland: A deep appreciation of music culture and enthusiasm for Sunderland’s music community.
- A Self-Starter: A self-motivated individual who can effectively manage their own workload while proactively contributing fresh ideas and solutions to support the team’s wider strategy.
